About
HitchPiggy started with a simple idea: a lot of people are already driving from one place to another with empty seats in their cars. At the same time, plenty of people are looking for a ride in that same direction. HitchPiggy was built to make that connection easier.
Years before launching HitchPiggy, founder Skylar Windham was teaching English abroad and traveling through Europe. Along the way, he used ridesharing apps and informal networks to find drivers who were already headed toward the next city or town.

Those rides stayed with him. He met kind people, shared the cost of the trip, and got where he needed to go.
When Skylar returned to the United States, he noticed there was not really a dedicated platform for that kind of community ridesharing here. There were people posting in social media groups, people looking for rides on scattered websites, and plenty of drivers already making trips with open seats, but no simple place to bring it all together.
So he started building one.
After years of work and iteration, HitchPiggy is now up and running. The platform connects drivers with empty seats to passengers headed the same direction, making it easier to share the ride and split the cost.
Since launching in June 2026, HitchPiggy has already begun attracting early users who are excited about the app.
One user shared:
“I love this idea. It makes the process of carpooling easier and more transparent. These days it feels like Amtrak is always full and expensive. HitchPiggy solves that problem by offering a better alternative.”
As HitchPiggy grows, Skylar is also working with the Portland State Business Accelerator to help strengthen the platform and bring community ridesharing to more people across the Pacific Northwest.
HitchPiggy has also been added as a carpooling resource on the Oregon Country Fair’s Getting Here page.
